# Academic Publishers API — Overview

> Overview of Hexagraph's global registry of commercial publishers, university presses, and society publishers.

The `/publishers` endpoints expose Hexagraph's global index of academic publishing organizations, including commercial publishers, university presses, and society publishers. Publishers host or own one or more [Sources](/api-reference/sources) (journals, preprint servers, and repositories) and are identified by the `HX_P` prefix system.

## Filter and Sort Fields

The `/publishers` API supports filtering and sorting on specific publisher attributes:
